OUR STORY

SMALL BEGINNINGS

  1. Founded in 1937 by families moving to Rochester to work at Kodak, the church initially met in the city of Rochester.
  2. In 1954 the Lawson Rd property was purchased in Greece, and construction was completed in 1956.
  3. In 1990 a group of  families from the Northside Church of Christ joined Lawson Rd increasing both its size and diversity.
  4. Another builidng project completed in 2012 installed an elevator and made the church building handicap accessible.
  5. The church is currently lead by our four elders and minister.

Lawson Road is a non-denominational church, but affiliates with other Churches of Christ locally and nationally. While the Bible serves as our final authority, we appreciate the theological influences of the American Restoration Movement upon our teaching and practices.

OUR CORE

We exist to connect people with God. None of us are perfect. Despite our individual struggles we share the commitment to patiently support one another as together we represent God to our city.

Four key words provide a focus for Lawson Road: Love; Rescue; Reconcile; and Renew. Together, we refer to these as LR-cubed.

Jesus instructs his followers to love in three ways. We are to love God, our neighbors, and each other. Our times of worship and organized ministry seek to express love in these three directions.

Each person at Lawson Road acknowledges a point in our life where we needed God’s life-changing rescue. Jesus’ life, death and resurrection grant us reconciliation with God and renewed life. Having received these blessings we work to integrate them into our daily lives and share them with our broader community.
